Grandpa and I took the kids to Lake Erie. We found shells and a bunch of dead fish-go figure. We couldn't believe how big Lake Erie is. It was cold but fun!

SEATTLE

Seattle-these flowers were so beautiful and everywhere at Pike's Market. Just $15 for a bouquet. I wanted to get some to put in our hotel room!

Fresh fish but VERY expensive! Fun to watch them throw it around though when someone bought some.

We got 3 beautiful days here! It rained only one day out of the 4 we were there.

This was a lighthouse in Discovery Park. I still love lighthouses!

Ok. This had to be one of the BEST things we ate. Well not so much to beignets but the dipping sauce. In the menu it said "chicory flavored". I just saw others with the powdered sugared scones and wanted some. But much to my pleasure chicory is coffee flavor so you can imagine that I enjoyed the dipping sauce more than the beignet. YUM! That is until Dad said," Don't you feel like you are sinning?!" So I had to stop:(

We laughed and laughed when we were in this "car". Dad said he felt like the guy in the Simpsons that is large and driving a small car :) We rented it to go around on San Juan Island-so fun!

The Beach!!!! Yes we went to the beach and yes Dad, Jeff, and Russ all got in the water to boogey board:) It is awesome to actually be able to drive on the beach. You sure can't do that in California!

We toured an aircraft carrier. Massive and at the same time, when we saw where the sailors slept-tiny.

There is something about being able to see where your kids live that brings peace. We loved every minute of being with Jeff, Lib Bree and Trey. What a wonderful way to spend the holidays. We love you and are so grateful to you for having us.

Sub For Santa is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. These people have so very little. It humbles me each year to see how little they have and how much I have. I realize I could easily get by on much less. They seem so happy with so little. A good lesson for all to learn.

Today in our family prayer, Russ prayed that we would notice the love of our Heavenly Father by His creations. As I was on lds.org getting some help with my lesson for Sunday, I saw this youtube post In the Spirit of Thanksgiving. Loved it. Then, I saw these pictures at sunset. God truly does love us and I am grateful for all around us that testifies of His love.

Michigan at Halloween Time!

What a gift it is to visit any time but this trip was especially fantastic! I love Halloween and since all my kids are grown, I don't have all the fun of school parties, trick or treating, and just the excitement for the holiday that children have. I was able to go to the school parties, a ward party and a party at Ryan and Liz's house-awesome! We also went to a pumpkin patch-with cider and doughnuts! So very yummy. You have to taste the cider from Michigan. I have to say it is the best. And the doughnuts fresh out of the fryer with cinnamon sugar-to die for!
I watched soccer games-in the FREEZING cold-and I mean bone chilling cold! Kids are incredible in that they don't even seem to notice.
Oh, and if you haven't seen the Halloween show of Modern Family-it is a must see. I have watched it 3 times now-so hysterical! I never would have known if not for Ryan and Liz.
Thank you Ryan and Liz for having me. I love you very much!

When we got home from our vacation, we had the most wonderful surprise-A NEW BATHROOM! While we were gone Lib, Em, Jeff, and Scott redecorated our bathroom. I absolutely love it. Each time I see it, I feel so grateful. Thanks again everyone!

My dog Panda is getting old. She is literally petrified of thunder. It she even smells rain or hears the wind blow, she shivers. She won't even go outside. She puts her nose through the doggy door sniffs and goes back in.
Last night she woke me up-licking her chops(this alone makes me want to smack her). So, I get out of bed walk with her to the door let her out but because it was beginning to rain, she went out and came right back in. I was not pleased! But I do feel sorry for her when she gets afraid. Poor little pup.

The last week of June and the first week of July brought wonderful times to the Elders. Russ came home from his mission in the Philippines (after 2 years, I am able to spell that right). Ryan, Liz, Collin, Ashlyn, and Shaylee drove the LONG way from Michigan to visit-a complete surprise (I literally almost fainted when I saw them). Jeff up from Texas to defend his dissertation so the brothers were able to see each other for 24 hours. I love my family!

We were lucky enough to get to vacation this last week in Austin, Texas and what made it all the better was the visit we had with Jeff, Lib, Bree and Trey. I have to say it is HOT in Texas. On the news the weather man said it was July weather in May. I am guessing the Texans stay inside for most of the summer or else they melt outside. We did see some joggers and walkers out in the heat of the day. Maybe you could get used to it?

We were able to be with Bree on her 5th birthday! What a beauty she is inside and out!

Trey is growing so fast! I loved that he called me "Grammy". He was so excited to look our the window in our hotel and said to me, as he was pulling my hand, "Grammy, mere, mere!"

Rudy's BBQ. Their motto is "The Worst BBQ in Texas!" Hardly-it was delicious!

This is a BBQ outside of a small town called Bastrop. We stopped here only to find out it was not the place to be. We went to the restroom-which is a story in and of itself-and saw the cook come out without washing his hands. Red flag this was not the BBQ we wanted to try!

The "Lone Star State". The capital was beautiful. So much workmanship inside and out. I found that Texans are proud of their state. They are really a country inside the United States. In the capital building in the center of everything,on the floor well below the star was the inscription, "The Republic of Texas". In WalMart where all the 4th of July clothes were, there was a T-shirt with the American Flag in the shape of Texas. Wait-aren't we the United States? I have to say though good for the people of Texas to have such state pride:)

New Kitchen!

My birthday. I love my birthday. My husband always spoils me by taking the day off to go to lunch, shopping and usually to dinner too. My friend Shanna made me this cute cup cake! I heard from all my kids-love them!!

For Mother's Day, my girls gave me this book and figurine. As most of you probably know, I have 5 sons. Through marriage, I have gained 4 daughters that I love as my own. This was an especially beautiful gift from them that as I think of it now and the words they wrote-my eyes fill with tears. I am a blessed woman!

Michigan!! We went to dinner, watched Collin and Ashlyn play soccer, visited Shannon's farm-how would you like to wake up to that scenery every day! We laughed, visited,went on drives and had a marvelous time! Thank you Ryan and Liz!

I am so thankful for jets that get us to our kids! This week Texas! Can't wait to see Jeff, Lib, Bree and Trey! I am a lucky woman!

St. George Adventure

This past weekend we were able to go south and enjoy some sunshine! (Thanks to Francoms for letting us use their relaxing vacation home!) Jeff had a meeting-one 3 hour meeting on Friday-and the rest of the time we played and rested. St. George is like a breath of fresh air this time of year compared with South Jordan. The sun was out, Spring flowers are blooming and the grass is green! We biked all over because there is such a large network of bike paths. On Saturday, we biked up Snow Canyon-so beautiful! All in all a great getaway with my very best friend Jeff!:)

Libby, Breena and Trey are in town while their Dad and husband Jeff finishes his dissertation and job applications. We wish he could be here too but love having Lib and the kids for a visit. My friend Janet and I have gone to Grand America for tea a few times and it is fabulous. I decided to take Breena while she was here and it was awesome!

A tea flower. This was beautiful. It started out as a shriveled up peanut shape and when the server added boiling water-a flower emerged!

So for the last 2 days I have been trying to blog about my trip to Michigan. It was wonderful and the perfect cure for the January blues. Even though it was cold outside, the warmth that came from being with Ryan, Liz, Collin Ashlyn and Shaylee, felt like being in the Florida sunshine. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

I didn't bring my camera on the trip because Dad brought his. But the bad thing is, I forgot to get it from him before he left for North Carolina. (He really got ripped off because he only got to stay for 1 1/2 days:(.) But no problem, I have this wonderful new phone that takes pictures. But actually there is a problem. I spent almost 2 hours yesterday trying to get them off my phone. I even went to a geek blog to see how they had done it. "Just email the pictures from your phone to your email address." Right! That didn't happen-couldn't figure it out. So today I got Dad's camera and slid the picture card into the computer and well-no pictures popped up on my screen. I believe it is because of a temperamental slot but- AGHHHHHHHHH!

I will prevail though-as soon as I can get someone (Dad) more computer savvy than me to help:) I will do a complete post.

A few days ago, I found Panda in this envied place. In the sun, on our bed (which Dad hates), asleep. I thought to myself, "She has a pretty dang good life." Just for a moment I wished I could trade her places, just to be so relaxed enjoying the sun. Hey-who's up for the beach?!

Honors for Grandpa

About 3 years ago, the Albanian ambassador to America was visiting UVU in Orem, Utah. At that time, he presented a certificate of commendation to Grandpa and Grandma for their work in Albania on their mission. He said that the work they did changed the health care in Albania. Grandpa taught at the medical school and Grandma worked with malnourished children at the dystrophy hospital. What a difference 2 people can make!

A few months ago, Grandpa learned that the weekly case studies that he started presenting at the medical school are still going on 12 years later. The communication between departments has vastly improved the quality of care at the hospital. There has also been a care center built closer to the people to care for their children instead of having to take them far from home, to the original dystrophy hospital where Grandma worked.

Everyone can make a difference no matter where you are.

Personal History

My sister Sandy and I are working with my Dad to get his personal history done. It has been a wonderful experience getting to know more about my amazing Dad. We have laughed and cried as he has told us stories from his youth. We are through his junior year of high school. He was in "Our Town", played in the band and orchestra and was in student government-can you say "highly motivated"?! During the session as he was talking about his high school years, my sister asked, "Dad, who was your first girlfriend?" He said, "Do you want to see her?" Heck yea! So-the greatest thing-he pulled out his yearbooks from high school, yep-1940 and 1941, and we saw her and got a flavor of his high school years-priceless!

We were so excited to be able to spend time with our Texans. There is a feeling of peace that comes when you can see where your family lives and be familiar with it. Fall in Provo Canyon

On Saturday afternoon, we went up Provo Canyon on the Squaw Peak Road and enjoyed the sights of fall. The colors were a little faded but still magnificent! I love the change of seasons. Each has it's own allure. Fall brings college football, apples, soup, pumpkins, and a renewed love of baking.

So who knew that once again Jeff and I would survive canning together-and beets no less! We had never canned beets before but we learned a new skill together! We grew the beets in our garden and now have 31 pints of beets stored! Chalk another one up to growing to love to work together in the kitchen-miracle!

Conference Weekend

I know this is a late post but I have been thinking about it and wanted to share my thoughts. I love conference weekend. I love the knowledge that comes from learning with the Spirit. I always am sad when it is over because the flow of peace and calm, from listening to Prophets and Apostles and other inspired men and women, leaves. Not totally but it is tangible.
It has always been a tradition for the boys to go to Priesthood and the girls either meet up with them after for dinner, or go to dinner on our own. I also love the tradition that my husband started long ago of making "treat bags". We each have our own and we love it! He has said that at the Priesthood meeting, they sometimes get funny looks as they eat from the bags, but it's all part of the experience.
I miss all my kids that are away so keenly at this time. I miss the feeling of the entire family being together. I love it. It is heaven on earth for me. It is, I think, one of the hardest trials of my life to have kids away. Even though I know with my mind that they are all exactly where they should be, doing exactly what they should be doing-my hearts doesn't get it and it is hard. But as my son Ryan told me, "Mom you can do hard things". He is right because I know that Heavenly Father watches over all and He is in control.
Those of us that were here- Jeff and I, Scott and Em and Brad and Melissa kept the tradition alive. We shopped, went to dinner and had a sleep-over with crepes in the morning-(another tradition started by my husband-he was and is an inspired man) and watched the Sunday morning conference session together. Good times! I love you all very much!

I Love Halloween!

I couldn't wait to get started with the decorating. Halloween has got to be one of my favorite holidays. I just love all the decor that comes with it. I love pumpkins, spiders, witches, skeletons-oh and of course-
CANDY!

Em and I hit Tai Pan on Saturday evening-what a mess of ladies!!! But I did pick up the witch and ghost-love 'em. Each year I seem to pick up a few new decorations. I think I'll have to visit Tai Pan when they all go on sale-anybody in?

Who knew that the beach on Coronado Island was so beautiful! Doesn't my Dad look fabulous for 86 years young!

The San Diego Temple is magnificent! You come around the corner on I-5 and there it is. Wes and Whitney picked the right place at the right time. To be sealed in the temple for time and eternity is an incredible blessing.

I sure missed Jeff this trip. He couldn't get away from work, but supported me in going. I love him!

2nd Time in 32 Years!!!

This year marks the second time in our married lives that we have canned peaches together-well without fighting that is. Our kids know that this is nothing short of a miracle but I think we have finally conquered our differences-at least in this one area. 19 quarts of canned peaches and 15 quarts of frozen!
Then last Friday, while I was away, Jeff did 20 more quarts of frozen peaches! He is amazing:)

Life

A few Sundays ago in our ward, a young woman played a violin solo. I admire anyone who plays a string instrument. I have never attempted to play, so I have no personal reference point, but it seems so difficult to know where to place your fingers to achieve the right note. As she was playing, at times the notes were just a little off but the overall music was beautiful with clear tone.
I had the impression that our lives are very much like that. Sometimes we are just a little off. We may have difficulities-trials, weaknesses and disappointments we must endure. But for the most part, if we stay close to Heavenly Father and trust and have faith in Him, our lives have a clear path and we have peace.
I know He loves each of us and is always near to help us reach our potential-our perfect tone-our divine identity made known to us through Him.

31 Years!

On August 23rd 31 years ago, the day I was sealed to my love and best friend, I thought I knew what love was. In the years that have come and gone since then, through all the events in life, I have grown to love him more deeply than words can express. He has supported me through thick and thin. He gave me the opportunity to be at home and raise my children. He has shouldered heavy burdens and still has a smile at the end of the day. He is the one I love the most in this world and I am so blessed to be his wife. I love you Jeff Elder!!!!

Each morning I take Panda for a walk. She lives for this! Really! As soon as I wake up, she follows me around staring at me and I know she is thinking, "When is she going to put her shoes on?! Please, please, please let it be soon!"
But I too have grown to love these walks. It's not to exercise my body but to clear and refresh my mind. I walk the same path almost every day. I go along the canal and down Wheadon lane. It's like walking in the country. I took some pictures today to share the peaceful scene.
The house is my friend Judy's. It is like taking a step back in time. I could just look at the chairs and the tire swing and go back to summers when I was young. Good memories!

Love Hurts!!

So after my post last week this one might seem strange but here goes. Most people who know me fairly well know that I am a compulsive cleaner. If there is a spot on the tile-I wipe it up, if there is a stain on the stove, I get out the Soft Scrub with Bleach. My kids will tell you that when they were younger, I would get upset at them if they made footprints in the carpet I just vacuumed-that's probably true.
But last week some of my kids and all of my grandkids left the state of Utah. My Michigans went back to Michigan. And my Provoians moved to Texas-Texans. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I have cried and eaten, eaten and cried. Nothing seems to take the pain away. But-I have this one reminder that I will keep for a while-small little handprints on my mirror and back door. I'm not getting the Windex or paper towels out-I'm loving thinking about those small ones and the love I have for them:)

One of the Best Weeks of My Life

This past week has been crazy and crazy good. Everyone in my family-minus Russ-was here for Scott and Emily's wedding. I have to say that the time together with my kids and grandkids was heaven. We were able to spend hours together eating, boating, slip and sliding, walking, going to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house, with the week's highlight being together in the Draper Temple for Scott and Emily's wedding. My family is my greatest treasure. I love them all to my very soul. We may be spread apart but we are all together in spirit.

This is just a simple joy. When I was in high school and the first few years of college, Estee Lauder made this fragrance called Aliage. It is my favorite. Yesterday, while looking for a dress to wear to Scott and Emily's wedding (that is another story-hours of looking with no success-but I know I will prevail) I saw it at the Estee Lauder counter when passing. I was so excited that I bought a bottle-or thought I did. Turns out I bought "Azuree"-what in the world! How disappointing! The sales clerk must have misunderstood. But I will take it back and get Aliage. Don't you love when something you love is gone and then comes back again. This is just a small example of that.

The Long Road Home

I do not often navigate the blog world, but since Lisa was gone to a shower for Emily, I decided to work on my church calling. For some random reason, I decided to check out our blog to see what Lisa might be communicating with her world.

I love her with all my heart. I know her pain. This is a difficult time for her. She is an amazing woman. As you all know, she gives her heart and soul to everything she does. She loves people and has an incredible love for the Young Women and Leaders of the Parkway 1st Ward. This release has been very difficult. In a lot of ways it is like a funeral.

There is no way to describe the loss of a loved one. You can not fill the void...nor do you want to. I have come to understand that the void that is created by the loss, represents the love that was created by and for that person. The sadness and heart break that Lisa is feeling represents the incredible love that she has for these young women and young women leaders. This part of her life seems like it has gone...but it really has not. Just as death does not stop the life of a person, nor does change. It is the gift of change that allows us to find the deeper meanings in life. Our struggles with change bring us closer to God.

I am anxious to have Lisa join me in the Young Adult ward. She will not fill the voids created from no longer being associated with her Young Women family. I am excited for the Young Adult ward to experience her love, her laughter, and her engaging personality. There are over 300 young adults that are going to be blessed by the incredible woman that she is. Like you, I am blessed every day to feel her love.

I was released from my calling as YW President this past Sunday. I must say that I am SO SAD about it. I love these girls and will miss them!! I will also miss all the talented, giving women that I worked with and loved. We worked hard and well together. Each had her own talents and used them to benefit the whole. I sat down and wrote this poem for them as a token of my love and gratitude for each and every one.

LABOR of LOVE

“Give your heart in service”

A simple little phrase.

But the rigors of the doing

Are an entirely different case.

Time in prayer, on bended knee,

Up late at night concerned.

Will they recognize who they are.

How long before they'll learn.

They're daughters of God sent at this time,

Saved for “such a time as this”,

To prepare the world for His return

All evil to resist.

Good shepherds guide them along

Acting for the Savior in this way.

“Keep them safe”, He calls to them,

Amazing Woman!

Yesterday I was privileged to attend the funeral of Lera Benson Whittle. She is the grandmother of my sister-in-law Klyss and was 102 years young when she died. I was so inspired by this woman's life and the love she shared with so many. The entire chapel was full with her family and half the cultural hall was filled with people who came to pay their respects to this wonderful woman.
Each speaker had pure love and admiration for her and had learned so many life lessons by following her example. Her calling in her ward was to mentor the youth. Quarterly they would sit at her feet and she would teach then about life. What a gift for them! I'm sure they will remember her words of wisdom for all of their lives.
Her Bishop said that even at 101 years old, she told him in a note after reading a book about women by President Gordon B. Hinckley, she would try to become better. Wow! What an inspiration.
My favorite saying that her grandson spoke of us was, "Worry less and love more!" As I ponder that, it is very profound brings new ideas to me on how I can improve in so many ways. What influence for good can one person make? The possibilities are endless.

So for the past few days I have been in Michigan with my son Ryan his wife Liz and my cute grandkids, Collin, Ashlyn, and Shaylee. I loved every minute of it! We jumped on the tramp, went to the park, saw movies-at home and at the theater. (Just a word of advice. If you have seen Planet Earth on TV-DO NOT go see Earth in the theaters-it is as my son Ryan said, "Planet Earth repackaged and put on the big screen for Disney to make money." That is right! Sorry Collin. Next time Grandma Lisa will take you to a show like Monsters vs. Aliens-which I should have known would have been better!)

I have to say that being a Grandma is one of life's greatest gifts and I absolutely love it! I miss you already Collin, Ashlyn and Shaylee. Maybe you could put pressure on your Dad to move out at least to the West Coast! :) Just had to put that plug in Ry.

My greatest thanks to my wonderful "Michigans" for having me out. It was awesome!! I love you!

It snowed last night and it is April 16th-what is up with that?! We here in South Jordan were lucky though because we only got 2 inches. Down south in Utah County, 6-8 inches were common-yuck! Our peach tree is in bloom as well as our nectarine tree-hmmm-I wonder how many peaches or nectarines we'll have? Zero if they all got frozen or maybe just a few BIG ones if the frost just thinned them. Time will tell.

I have to say I am ready for the warm weather that is coming. Hooray for 60s and 70s and blue sky. Maybe we could just skip forward to Saturday?! :)

Easter

Yesterday I was reading in the Ensign about the last week in Christ's life. In the article it describes the mock trial and then I read, "After both the Jewish hearing and the Roman trial, Jesus was subjected to abuse; mocking, scourging, spitting. " Then, "Jesus willingly suffered our pains, afflictions, and infirmities that He might 'take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people' and that He might 'know. . .how to succor his people according to their infirmities".
He the only perfect Being, suffered these injustices for us. He knows how we feel and how to help us when we struggle. He loves us! He broke the bands of death and sin that we could have the opportunity to come Home.
I know He lives. I hope to become more like Him in this refining process we call life.

Light in the Dark

In the last few weeks, I have noticed more light coming into my windows at night. Usually when there is a snow storm, there is an orange glow that comes and makes it lighter-I call this "snow sky". But when I noticed this, there wasn't a storm. (There have been snow storms lately. That's right snow storms in March, leaving 3 inches of snow on my front lawn! But that is a topic for another day.) Why is it so light?, I wondered. Is my neighbor's back yard light on? No. Are there more street lights on? No. (Not since the city finally put more in our neighborhood a few years ago. Thank heaven!)
Anyway all of this got me thinking on the topic "light in the dark". Have you ever been out in the country driving at night and it is pitch black all around you? When you look out of the car window there are millions of stars lighting the sky-light in the dark. Have you ever been outside on a warm summer night when the moon is full? It looks like daytime-light in the dark. Have you ever been lost on your path in life and wondered where to turn, or who to turn to, to find the right course?
There is One that we can always turn to who is a Light in the darkness, that life sometimes brings. "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life. " John 8:12. He will show us the way. He is our Light in the darkness. His love is eternal, unchanging, and ever-present.

Thank you everyone!!!! Passed out is more like it. There is something about putting yourself, your ego, and your abilities on the line that makes it extremely rewarding when you accomplish that thing that you undertake that is difficult for you. In spite of all of the hours in preparation, I was convinced that I had failed when I completed the test. One of my sales team took the test today and did not pass and I understand that I could have easily been him. Faith is an important thing in our lives. If we believe in ourselves and seek the help and faith of those around us who believe in us, miracles happen. During the test, I recognized in a significant and literal way that each of you were praying for me and that you believed that I could do it.

We need to let each other know when there are significant things in our life that we need help with. Why do we have prayer circles? Why do we fast collectively? Together we make a difference. Thank you for helping me succeed.

My husband is a genius. He doesn't realize this but he is. The building business as is everything else in the world, is going green. To stay ahead of the game, he wanted to become LEED certified which means he knows all the ins and outs of building green. Reusable resources, environment conservation, etc.- you know everything green. Sounds simple right?! Well is was anything but simple! The book he had to study was 3 inches thick and that was just one part of the process. He took a class for 2 days, studied virtually every night for a month and took several practice tests.

So today was the big day. $400.00 to take the test with 2 hours to complete it. He went, he took, HE PASSED!!!!! I knew he would all along. Kudos to him for accomplishing a huge task and something that was not easy for him. He is my hero!!!

Is Money More Important than People?!

Has this economy made people so ferociously greedy that money has become more important that people? Sure people are losing jobs, we are watching banks fail, and Wall Street go down in flames, but surely we can all still realize, that in the end, all that really matters is us-people. When we leave this life-it won't really matter how high we climbed on the corporate ladder, or how big our house was, or how many "toys" we acquired. What will matter is how we treated our husband, wife, kids, parents, neighbors, and yes strangers. What we will take with us is our character, and that cannot be built with the mighty dollar-it can only be built by practicing kindness, patience, and love for others. Hopefully we can all stop and evaluate where our priorities are and make changes to our path if we need it.

Yesterday we were driving from South Jordan, Ut, to Las Vegas, Nv. We could see in the distance what looked like smoke from a fire but when we got closer, we saw it was a dust storm. What was so amazing is that it all started from a small field and was only about 3 feet tall initialy. As it blew toward the north, it gained in strength and size until it was about 100 feet tall and was so thick, you couldn't see through it. As I watched it, I couldn't help but compare it to so many instances in life. A fashion fad starts and soon is all the rage. Low moral standards are portrayed as acceptable by a few, and soon they are accepted by many. Gossip starts with two people and spreads to many with people hurt along the way.
In contrast, good also spreads. A kind word to someone in need makes then more apt to share a kind word with someone else. Service to one can result in service to many. Love expands and brightens life. What will we "start" today. ". . .by small means the Lord can bring about great things." l Nephi 16:29

Signs of Spring

I love when the month of March comes. The long dreaded Winter is over and Spring is just around the corner. In my front yard, my crocus are starting to poke their little green heads above the ground, I woke up yesterday to the cooing of a dove (the same doves come back each year), and today it is supposed to be in the 60's! It will snow again for sure but it won't stay and soon the grass and the trees will become greener and greener. I wonder if I would love Spring so much if we didn't have Winter?

During the past few weeks, I have been to Dillards-oh I don't know-maybe 4 times. Each time I have looked at their clearance shoes. I bought some shoes by Jessica Simpson for $23.oo which I thought was a great deal since they were $80.00 to start. But yesterday, I hit the mother lode. Steve Madden shoes for $11.00. Yeah that's right $11.00. How did I get that deal you ask? They were 75% off and then another 40% on top of that! I am in heaven. Can't wait until tomorrow to wear them to Church. They may be a little tall-but I'm still not taller than my husband so-what the heck, I'll enjoy them!

Snowing-but a better day

Yesterday was one of those days for me that I would choose never to have-if I had a choice. It started out all right. Going to the gym, lifting weights-doing yoga (I tried this new yoga class and it was fabulous! Thanks Pam!) But I had all these negative thoughts that turned into feeling bad-can you relate when I say the words "not good enough"? I decided to go to a movie by myself. It is the second time in my life I have done this and it is sometimes right to do. Especially when you are in a mood like I was. Who wants to be around a moody, weepy, grouchy woman-YIKES!
So-I went to the show, and while I was there got some escape from myself but after it was over, the woman I don't like in myself was still present. What to do now? Food? Maybe a chocolate bar? But I just had greasy, salty popcorn-isn't that the cure- all for the blues? I drove around for a while and then decided to go home. At this point I just sat and cried.
I called my husband and he tried to help but he was getting on a plane to fly home. He is patient and loving but when I'm in "that mood" nothing he says is right. Totally not his fault-all mine in all my grouchy glory. I commenced to cry some more praying, literally, that I could find my way out of this dark place. Then, my son called. He said, "Mom, just because you are having a bad day doesn't mean you are a bad person." (Remember the words above, "not good enough"). Just those few words-there were many more that helped, but those stuck in my mind- provided me a way out. An answer to prayer. A light at the end of a tunnel. I came out. The Lord has angels above and angels here on earth. Yesterday my son was my angel.
Today it is gray and snowy but it is a new day and that sometimes makes all the difference. :)

Grandkids

These are my grandkids. I have such great love for all of them. Some are far away and some are not so far, but all are close to my heart. They are strong little spirits. They have to be to be in this world. Each was born to good parents with the abilities and talents to raise them to reach their potential.
I couldn't imagine how wonderful it would be to be a Grandma. My heart just grows with love as each one comes. I think about them, I worry about them and I pray for angels to watch over them each day. I am grateful for the blessing of knowing and loving these precious little souls. Always know-each of you-that your Grandma loves you with all her soul and I will always be here to help you in any way I can:)

Blessings of the Temple

Today my alarm went off at 5am-AAAAHHH!!! I forgot to turn it off from yesterday morning (I was priviledged to go do baptisms for the dead with my Laurel, Jenny Rogers-awesome!) I tried to go back to sleep and couldn't. Well, maybe I could have but Jeff couldn't so we both got up. You see, Jeff has been getting up at 5:10am each day to go workout and so it's just his internal alarm clock now. So- since we were up, we decided to go to the temple. We are spoiled because the temple is only 5 minutes away. In fact, we are very spoiled because soon-by November 2009, we will have 3 temples we can see almost from our house-no excuse not to go. We got up showered and went. Can I just say, what a great way to start out a Saturday. It is truly a blessing to have a place full of peace and the Spirit to calm and fortify my spirit. I am grateful for temples. It is just one more way our Heavenly Father shows us His profound love for His children.

Tomorrow will be 2 years since my Mom died. I still miss her. I don't think you ever get over that-missing your Mom. She was a strong and good woman. She had a bright mind and always knew just the right advice to give you in times of need. She rarely spoke of herself when you were there but wanted to know how you were doing and how your kids were. She was fiercely protective of her kids and wo to the person who said or did anything against her grandkids. Her family was everything to her. With each passing year, I realize how blessed I was to have such a mother! She made me better and loved me. I love you Mom!

Panda

I was just thinking this morning about our dog Panda. She is sometimes makes me feel guilty just by looking at me. I imagine her saying, "Mom, when are you going to take me for a walk? or Mom, that milk in your cereal bowl sure looks good! Are you giving it to me? or Mom, please, please hurry and let me out the door!" These are times that I don't really enjoy her. But at times, she is a comfort as she sits by me and sleeps, or barks at a stranger passing by. She always loves me no matter what. Aren't dogs amazing that way!

Trip to see our Michigans

I am still new at posting so I didn't get the text with the pictures but-I wanted to make a slide show again because there were so many good pics. We had so much fun and enjoyed our time with Ryan, Liz, Collin and Ashlyn more than words can say. Thank you for your hospitality and love.
We went to a Michigan game with Ryan and sat or should I say stood in the student section-what an experience-awesome! The stadium is HUGE!! We learned some new cheers that we have yet to try at the BYU games.
On Tuesday we went to a petting zoo, the Ford museum in Detroit and this great place for burgers and ice cream-the name escapes me.
Apple orchard on Wednesday-so fun! We had pumpkin doughnuts and cider-Wow were they delicious! As you can tell the food was a highlight for me.
What made all these adventures so wonderful was that we were with our kids and grandkids. We cherish the time we spend with them because it doesn't come as often as we would like-but it does come so we're grateful.

As you may know, the 4th of July is second only to Christmas for our family. My Mom created the traditions-going to the (we added the balloon launch this year) parade, BBQ, rest, then fireworks. I really miss her!! I am thankful for good traditions like the 4th. Family and friends, parades, BBQs, and fireworks-what could be better. We sure miss our Michigans though! How grateful I am for this great country and what freedoms we have here. All of this came at a cost and it is good to stop and contemplate the sacrifices of so many that have made our lives so good.

Trip to San Fran

Jeff and I went to San Francisco the last week of June and ate and ate! (I saw Courtney Cox at a restaurant we went to-of course the company was paying for the meal-how else could we eat at a restaurant that Courtney Cox would be at?!) It was very cold but we had a great time!

I decided to finally make another post. I found my way back to where Liz originally showed me what to do so here goes. Russ has been in the MTC for 2 weeks today. We only have one letter from him and he sounds very happy. It was a different experience for me this time around. Scott says it's because I knew it was the last time to do it and that's probably true, but I can honestly say that for the first time, I felt the overwhelming spirit of the MTC. Russ is where he is supposed to be-I know that-even though I miss him more than I can say.

This is the guard station at the ruins. It was the only way in or out of there homes. The drop off was about 300 feet-yikes!

My family together for the first time in 10 years-I sure miss my Mom! We had a good time together though laughing and reconnecting.
